It was a day of celebration as well as commitment, when the Swindon branch of Youth Cancer Trust visited Sainsbury’s store in Stratton earlier today (Wednesday 20th July). Celebration because the charity were delighted to be able to formalise their year long partnership with the outlet and commitment, with both sides pledging to twelve months of fund raising, planning at the same time to greatly enhance awareness of the organisation. Richard Searl, Regional Community Fundraising Manager for YCT explains, ‘The Youth Cancer Trust exists to provide support and free holidays for youngsters diagnosed with cancer. We have a holiday home in Bournemouth where we can take teenagers and young adults to for short breaks and it’s somewhere they can relax and focus on having fun.’ He adds ‘We are looking forward to massively raising our profile in the Swindon area, along with gaining some much needed funds, thanks to the support of Sainsbury’s.’
Stratton Store Manager Val Atwill was delighted to be able to welcome the charity, promising ‘It will be twelve months of hard work, but I am sure it will be a lot of fun on the way.’
A full programme of events is being planned, details of which will be released as soon as they are finalised. Meanwhile, store colleagues, while reflecting on a hugely successful campaign total of £10,544.11 for their previous Local Charity of the Year, will be looking to match, or maybe even top, that figure in the next twelve months!
